Listening Session: Jail Profile Survey Addition: Late-Night Releases

Background

The Jail Profile Survey (JPS) originally was designed to provide counties a means of tracking changes in their jail populations to predict program and facility needs. It also has informed stakeholders, researchers, policymakers, and other interested parties about local detention populations.

Because policymakers and others have expressed concern about limited services available after-hours, the Board of State and Community Corrections is proposing to collect data about the time of day people are released from facilities.

The BSCC is seeking to include new JPS data that are useful and meaningful to researchers and stakeholders, but that also are accessible to the jail managers who already report a wide range of information.  The BSCC will use the public input to guide its efforts to collect the new release information in a way that will be useful and efficient.

Zoom Listening Session – Public Comment

The BSCC has scheduled a statewide listening session so that stakeholders and members of the public can provide comments on the draft recommendation for the collection of information related to late-night releases from county jails. The BSCC is seeking input on utility, ability for agencies to collect, and any other relevant information.
