On October 1, 2021, following the action taken by the Board at its September 16, 2021, the BSCC formally notified the County of Los Angeles that its juvenile halls are unsuitable for the confinement of minors.  This notification triggers a 60-day period in which the county must bring its facilities into compliance with the BSCC’s minimum standards.  If the county fails to take corrective action prior to the end of the 60-day period, the county may no longer use the facilities for the confinement of minors.  The Board will review the county’s progress at remediating the items of noncompliance at its next board meeting on November 18, 2021.  A copy of the notice can be read here: Notice of Unsuitability
