SACRAMENTO (Sept. 21, 2021) -- The Board of State and Community Corrections is asking for help in obtaining wide-ranging responses to a survey about the costs and fees charged to minors and their families related to confinement in halls, camps and ranches.

The survey comes in response to a request from state Senator Maria Elena Durazo, who in 2020 authored legislation extending the 2017 abolition of fees for things such as food, clothing and healthcare related to a minor’s confinement. Senator Durazo wants to determine whether fees for phone calls, visitor parking or any other items still are being collected.

Information gathered through the survey will be provided to the Senator and to the BSCC Board.

Responses are due back by midnight Oct. 28, 2021.
