BSCC Seeks ESC Members for Two Grants

SACRAMENTO (July 15, 2021) – The Board of State and Community Corrections is recruiting a diverse group of volunteers to serve on committees that will help develop criteria for two grants, and then rate the proposals that are submitted for funding.

The Board voted unanimously today to act on the grants in a special meeting held to expedite the release of significant additional funding coming to the BSCC in the Budget Act of 2021-2022.

The Executive Steering Committees are for the $227 million California Violence Intervention and Prevention Grant Program and the $67 million Adult Reentry Grant Program, both a part of the Budget Bill signed by the Governor on Monday. ESC members will work with BSCC staff to develop each grant’s Request for Proposals, then will return to read and rate the applications.

For its ESC work the BSCC seeks out people with diverse professional and lived experience and subject-matter expertise who are representative of California’s population. Those interested may submit a statement of interest by following the “Executive Steering Committees Scoring Panels” link on the BSCC homepage or by clicking here: https://www.bscc.ca.gov/s_bsccexecutivesteeringcommittees/

The Adult Reentry Grant provides funding for community-based organizations that provide services to people coming out of state prison. The $67 million will be split between rental assistance and reentry services.

The Legislature historically allocates $9 million annually to the California Violence Intervention and Prevention Grant Program. This year, the state budget provided a $200 million one-time augmentation that will be allocated across the next three budget years. The grant funds will go to cities and community-based organizations that develop the best local solutions to reducing violence in the communities they serve.
