Board Approves Awards for Juvenile Facility Improvements

4-9-2015

SACRAMENTO (April 9, 2015) -- The Board of State and Community Corrections voted today to award nearly $80 million to eight California counties seeking to improve housing and create program space for youthful offenders.

The conditional awards for lease-revenue bond financing were made under the Senate Bill 81 Round Two Local Youthful Offender Rehabilitative Facility Construction Financing Program.

Round One of financing was for the acquisition, design, renovation and construction of juvenile facilities. The Board agreed that under Round Two counties also could submit proposals for non-secure, non-residential program space.

The BSCC received eight proposals for the $79.2 million in financing. All were fully funded except for Riverside County, which received $15.9 million of the $17.5 million it had requested.

Counties receiving full awards are: San Diego $4.5 million; Orange $17.5 million; Santa Cruz $9.5 million; Tulare $3 million; El Dorado $9.6 million; Yuba $9.6 million; Kings $9.6 million.

Awards will remain conditional until the projects are established according to the requirements of the State Public Works Board.
